CREATING A MOLECULAR COOKBOOK

For my personal project I decided to create a molecular cook book, the idea that every substance we use in cooking if put in a certain way at a certain temperature can make magnificent plates with an amazing mixture of chemicals behind it. The reason I am doing this is to expand the knowledge and make people closer to the idea that science is in every single thing we do making the time of coking a meal a moment to discover new things and making it no more a time to cook but a voyage in chemistry. I will get simple recipes that can be easily done.
My goal is to create a cookbook with the chemistry explanation behind. In the book I will have:
2 appetizers
2 first courses
2 second courses
2 desserts
10 tips to use in everyday cooking.
I will have to find most recipes that can fit in a general rule I fixed for me:
·         The recipe should be something g simple but interesting.
·         If has specific ingredients with scientific name provide: explanation, commercial name.
·         Provide an scientific explanation of what is happening

 In this project the AOI that fits better is human ingenuity.

HOW DO WE CREATE?
 I will explain what will happen in the food molecular structure while preparing a course and explain using scientific methodology to explain it.
PERSONAL MOTIVATION
 I decided to do this because I had always been attracted by the science in cooking. I would like to expand my learning to a big audience, young to make them be more curious about an everyday situation

The idea that people can go down over -150m under water is amazing and I would like to understand how it is possible
This could have been a good idea because I knew Umberto Pellizzari that is a apnea ex record man but at the end it was too late to ask his opinion so I decided the cook book

Hand guide of bio plastic “environments
The idea that people are inventing new ways to create an ecofriendly plastic that could change the idea of plastic and the idea that also my father’s company may change.
I was really into this project but the industry failed and it would be useless to do a leaflet for a failed industry

Planning ecofriendly house “environment”
Because of my interest in designing houses and the fact that in the world most of the architects are getting in ecofriendly materials may sign the future of building.
I liked this idea but it was too complicated to do it with my preparation.

Creating  a molecular kitchen book
A blog
The idea of making a blog can make the accessibility easier to the people even if there are lot of different blogs that talk about this situation so I didn’t really want to do this or it wouldn’t be so unique
A printed book
The idea of making  book printing it is a good idea also because I have all the attachments to print it but the problem is that to print the book it would take longer and once did the work I wouldn’t do anything more and leave the information to in paginate to the printer with the indications. This idea was my first choice but after a meeting with my supervisor we decided that we would make a different type of editing because the book could come out not so well.
An interactive cookbook
 The idea of having an interactive cook book rose during a meeting with the supervisor. The best idea because I could keep the idea of a book and the format but also have videos that in the book was impossible to do . I will base the book on a grownup public and the idea of doing it for an ipad seemed better. because of the copyright and due to the fact that I HAVE to copy the recipes from other people I will have to put hyperlinks and information about it but it can’t be published so it will be only a preview.

november 27:

november 27: i had a meeting with the supervisor and we decided to change the initial idea of creating a cookbook. we decided to create a interactive cook book. after the meating i had to change the stage 1 again because i added some parts after re reading the points needed and added the justification table. i also added some more recipes to my list with the prepartion an so on so that next  time we can accord how many recipes i should have.

Today I worked on my stage 1, I re red all the stage and compared it to the handout gave at the begning of the year. I fixed the stage by reformulating the stage. I added my table

In the table I put all my ideas with the motivation. I also opened a blog to post all my progress in it so that my supervisor can have an updated table with easy entrance.

I started m y stage 2 of the project and I started by getting some recipes according to a rule I did to prevent impossible recipes. (
•the recipe should be something  simple  but interesting.
•if has specific ingredients with scientific name provide : explanation , commercial name.
•provide an scientific explanation of what is happening )While I was searching for the recipes I found out that the first and second course are difficult to find while appetizers and dessert are really easy so I think I may change what my initial idea was. No more writing 2 recipes each (2 appetizers, 2first course, 2second course, 2 desserts) but weighting the most interesting recipes I can find.
 The most difficult recipes wore where I had too many chemicals that could be difficult o find. The problem wasn’t the preparation but the ingredients. e.g.: Microwave Yogurt Sponge Cake w/ Mango Cream Sauce and Fresh Fruit and Olive Oil Powder. this recipe had too many ingredients that could have been a problem. Ultratex 3 was one of the ingredients but too difficult to find in a normal groceries store in Italy.
The recipes I am aiming are simpler. e.g. Mozzarella Balloon( the ingredients are mozzarella and basil sauce)

On this date I had my first meeting with my supervisor MS castle, I presented here my stage one and we discussed on various ideas to put in my project. We arrived at a conclusion of adjusting the various parts of the presentation and that I had to present a timeline of my goals. This meeting made me thinks of the infinite opportunities that I can do with my project.
